First Day of School:
Monday 4th February

Where to go at 9am:
New students meet near the bike racks outside the reception area with your families.
Everyone else hang your bags up and come on into the hub, meet us in karaka.

What to bring:
School sunhat, drink bottle, lunch & morning tea, togs, towel, water gun

What's Happening on the First Day?
At 9am our students from last year will be taken to the hall from the hub to welcome our new students to school by giving them a powhiri.  Families are welcome to stay for this.  We then head to the hub until morning tea.  We will be setting up all our routines, showing you where to keep your things and how to sign in and keep safe at Amesbury School.
After morning tea the whole school is having a Water Fun session.  There will be 5 groups and each group will rotate around 5 different water activities, some of these include a water slide and water guns. If you don't have a water gun to bring we will have some that you can borrow.
In the afternoon Mike will be leading the children in an art activity.
To see our daily timetable and planning for the rest of this week have a look on our planning site.  The details are here for your to ask your children questions about their learning after it takes place rather than 'prepping' the children before the lesson.

Uniform
Please wear your uniform on the first day.  Any of the 4 t-shirts is fine and your choice of BLACK short, trackpants, leggings, skirt, trouser, jeans.  Anything black on your bottom half is fine as long as it is plain with no logos, piping, designs etc.  Any socks and shoes are fine, although comfortable footwear is preferable as we do fitness or PE everyday.  School sunhats are essential.  In colder weather school polar fleece can be worn and  black or grey long sleeve tops (polyprop) under their t-shirts.

Stationery
There is no need to bring anything to school.  We will provide you with all books, pencils, crayons etc.  You may bring your own pencil case if you wish.  The office will send an invoice for stationery.  It is a set price for the year of $25 plus $15 for Mathletics.

Lunches
You can order school lunches from our website.  There is a form you can submit from there rather than sending the order or money to school.  The office runs an account for each family and you can pay off your account as you go.  Gail will be able to answer your questions around this.

Classes and Whanau Teachers
We do not have single classes with a single teacher.  All Year 1-2's have four teachers.  One of these will be your child's whanau teacher.  They will monitor your child's learning and be the first port of call with any questions and for parent interviews.  In the morning for the first two weeks, children will meet in a space with their whanau teacher to check the roll.  After the first couple of weeks, everyone will meet together as a hub at 9am.  Children will be taught by all teachers for different things.  Groups will be organised according to learning needs, interests and social needs and these can change over time.  We will let you know through email which teacher your child has for different things once we begin our literacy and numeracy group programmes in Week 3.
All children who were at Amesbury School last year have the same whanau teacher (unless we have already emailed you with changes).  The new children have already had an email sent to you advising you who your whanau teacher is.

Home Learning
Most children will bring a reading book home most days.  Many children will also have high frequency words to learn to read or write and some children may have some basic facts.  We have mathletics and bug club which are online maths and reading programmes set at children's levels that can be played anywhere anytime!

Who is in the Hub?
Our teachers are Mike, Lisa, Demelza and Angela
We start on day one with 41 Year 1-2, and end Term 1 with 49 children.
From day one this is 14 Year 1's and 27 Year 2's, 20 boys and 21 girls.
Our children also have lessons from our specialist teachers:
